As I try to break my way into YouTube history it's important you know who my YouTube Heroes are. These folks are masters of their craft and I'll be the first to admit you'll see elements of their work in mine. PLEASE go check them out, rate their videos, and subscribe to their channels!
 Ray William Johnson
Ray's the coolest straight dude I've ever seen. He has two main channels. BreakingNYC is Ray's daily (well, mostly daily) video blog about living in NYC. RayWilliamJohnson is the name of his channel for a show he does on Sundays and Wednesdays called =3 (Equals 3) where he breaks down the best and worst from around YouTube.
 Will
Will covers all of the YouTube rankings and news each week on his channel called TheWillofDC and has a personal video blog on TheWillofNYC. He's also Ray William Johnson's roommate which means there's no chance I can go near where they live without going SQUEEEE and being arrested for violating my restraining order. Will's super cool and since he edits all of Ray's videos he's been very helpful with my technical questions. Thanks Will!
 Chris Thompson
Chris makes awesome funny videos on two channels. His channels are supricky06 and supdaily06 and are CHOCK full of awesomeness! (but then... I've already said that... anyway...) Go check out his stuff and be sure to sing along!
 Joe
If you've ever wondered what modern musical GENIUS looks like - look no further! Joe, who goes by MysteryGuitarMan, is AMAZING and I can watch all his videos over and over and over... you'll never look at everyday items the same way again!
 elmify
If you've ever wondered what self-inflicted web therapy looks like then check out elmify's channel. Her multiple personalities CRACK ME UP! |

MEPING
(freeware)
MePing is a so-simple-it-just-works application made by someone named Bryan Bartow (bless his heart) and it's my number 1 choice for updating my Ping.fm status from my computer. It's Adobe Air based which is kinda cool and once I figured out how to get the darn thing working it's worked like a champ ever since.
Upside: free (obviously) and it just works!
Downside: still in beta, expect a bug here and there

PING.FM
(website)
The problem: you have a Facebook account, a MySpace account (though I don't know why), a Twitter account, an AOL Instant Messenger account, a Yahoo Instant Messenger account, a Google Talk account, a LinkedIn account, a Brightkite account, a blog, a Flicker account, a LiveJournal account, a FriendFeed account, and a Friendster account (and those are just the ones you can remember) and you're FRICKIN TIRED of updating them all.
The solution: Ping.fm. This website lets you update (in OH so many ways including email, website, instant message, applications, etc) ALL of your status' across literally dozens of platforms ALL AT ONCE! I use this to update this website's frontpage through a blog and usually just take a picture on my iPhone, insert it into an email with a status update and email it to my Ping.fm account and BLAM - everything is updated!
Upside: This is the most convenient tool I've ever used. Period. The guys who developed this site are very vocal on Twitter and are constantly adding new websites to the list for updates. This site has saved me HUNDREDS of hours over the past year alone. The number of ways of making a status update are mind blowing.
Downside: It can be a bit buggy at time but considering what these developers have pulled off it's really quite understandable.

TRILLIAN ASTRA
(freeware)
Trillian has been around for a LONG time now but just recently they came out with Trillian Astra which does what it always has done (instant messenger for Yahoo, IRC, AIM, Google Talk, etc) but now has a Trillian Astra account that ties all of these together so you can reinstall (or reformat) without having to remember all your accounts and passwords. The free version is a little limited but it still serves it's purpose.
Upside: one instant messenger client
Downside: limited free version and the settings are a little clunky

TOTALCOMMANDER
(freeware)
OK, technically TotalCommander, made by Ghisler, is "shareware" meaning they expect some money at some point, BUT, I've been using TotalCommander with all it's glorious features for free for YEARS. TotalCommander is a MUST have for anyone who's at least partially techie. This program does EVERYTHING. It's an awesome file management, batch renamer, FTP client, and much much more program but I love it for one AMAZING feature: Compare. I have several websites on FTP and several external backup drives and the compare files/folders feature has saved my grass several times.
Upside: this program does EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING. it's been around forever and I've never once experienced a bug.
Downside: In true "shareware" fashion you get prompted to donate/buy when you launch the program... but that's the ONLY time.

TweetDeck
(freeware)
Admittedly, Twitter sucks at presentation while succeeding at function. This is where TweetDeck comes in. This Adobe Air based product is AWESOME at putting all your status updates from Twitter, Facebook, MySpace (people are still there?) and other places in one place. This is a MUST have for anyone that has accounts on multiple systems.
Upside: free and works, they also update the software a LOT which is awesome. apparently there's also an iphone app too.
Downside: kinda funky to work with and in the beginning had a lot of bugs.

Google Reader
(Google)
Amongst the NUMEROUS Google freebies comes Google Reader. It's quite honestly the only way I can keep up with everything everywhere. I have so many blogs I read and so many friends I keep up with and Google Reader brings it all together. Simply put, Google Reader aggregates all your RSS/Atom feeds in one place, and it does it VERY well.
Upside: It's free, it's from Google, and it works.
Downside: As with anything Google you're at their mercy.

CCLEANER
(freeware)
There's a LOT of "free" downloads out there to help you clean up your Windows computer but I generally stay away from them because they end up causing more problems than doing good. CCleaner is an exception to this though. CCleaner will help you get rid of temp files, clean up your registry, and even help you remove programs and adjust startup programs.
Upside: it's free and it works!
Downside: It doesn't autoupdate and they release a new version about once a month that requires a manual download and install. Also tries to install a toolbar on install (uncheck the option).
